In the beginning, there was neither sand nor sea...

This month, we focus on the beautiful Vǫluspá Oracle, hand drawn by artist Evelina Andersdotter Forsström.

As the mists of the Underland begin to lift, we find ourselves at the edge of Ginnungagap—the fertile void where all creation begins. In the Vǫluspá Oracle, artist Evelina Andersdotter Forsström captures this cosmic "Springtime" with stunning precision.

Just as the world was raised from the depths, your "Magic of Intention" is now ready to break the surface. Use the Creation cards of this narrative deck to map out the new horizons of your summer half. The shadows of winter have served their purpose; now, let the light reach the roots.

This deck retells in pictorial form the prophecy of the Vǫluspá. A seeress requests an audience and announces that the god Óðinn wants her to recount her earliest memories (1). She tells of giants who fostered her, nine worlds, a glorious tree (the world-tree, Yggdrasill) beneath the ground (2), and Ymir, a giant who lived when there was otherwise only a void (3). She recalls how the sons of Burr (Óðinn, Vili and Vé) raised up earth (4), and mentions the young sun, stars and moon, before they had established their places (5). (ref)

It's likely this poem was written after or just as conversion began as there are elements within it that indicate a similar punishment and afterlife seen in the book of Revelations. Evelina takes us back to an early style of art often depicted in the later iron ('viking') age.

The deck is meant to be interpreted individually as the cards will have different meanings to the person reading them.
