For the modern seeker, ritual is the tool that makes these transitions sacred. At Gullveig’s Charms, we design our collections to be the tools of that ritual. Sometimes, that's harder than it seems. I know that most people (like me) don't have a lot of time to spend dressing or wearing things, Gullveig's charms was an easy way for me to live my faith without too much time involved.
It sets my intent for the day, draws with it some protective concepts while also looking like something I would wear. Wearing a large hammer or specific heathen motif is just not me, I don't particularly like heavy pieces of jewelry, when I do wear them its for very narrow and explicit reasons. I wear my mom's ashes for example on Mothers Day or when I want to have her 'with me'. Human ashes are surprisingly heavy...
There is also sometimes an association of heathen symbols to white supremacists movements which I stand 10 toes down against. Wearing them tends to be confusing to some people, I don't want to have people 'worry about me' as a safe person and someone who works in intersectional communities, I know how it can be...so I choose to wear things that are more meaningful to me, but to others seem like just 'bling'.
One of the more treasured pieces I have is a glass acorn with a dandelion puff incased inside, this to me honors my Slavic roots and reminds me that I am a survivor. I have pieces made from walnuts to represent woodland gods, pieces from broken pottery, glass and recycled objects which speak to my soul. All these were carefully chosen by me, to have intention.
That's the spirit of Gullveig. I enjoy and am thankful to Mosslyn for allowing me to be the one curating the charms, and building the wearables, I do so with deep intention, with the spirit of honouring the gods, seasons, spirits etc, I pick each piece and its matching beads to honor the charm itself.
My particular favourite charm set is the Underland themed ones. The whimsy of these charms is seen through the choices of spiral beads, soft and smooth objects like roses, marbles, chess pieces, rabbits, etc. I really enjoy putting them together. I am looking forward to seeing how these charms are used, how they are worn, and the intentional pieces ringing true to the wearer, presenting a new vision of how spirituality can be, it can be in just the wearing of a charm, simple, unassuming, but full of promise, protection, and intent.
