This January we focus on the classics, the books that helped build the foundation of TLS.
The Foundation: A Beacon in 2008
The story of The Three Little Sisters began in 2008. Established as a woman-owned indie publisher, the mission was clear from the start: to provide the Heathen and Pagan communities with a platform that prioritized education, inclusivity, and spiritual development. Our very first book, Embracing Heathenry (which is currently being revamped), was published.

The Expansion: A Circle of Distinguished Authors
Growth for the Sisters hasn't just been about sales—it’s been about the expansion of the "Lighthouse Library." Today, the publisher represents a specialized roster of authors whose work forms the backbone of modern Germanic and Northern practice.
The Pillars of Scholarship & Lore
The Sisters are the proud home to a brilliant array of thinkers and practitioners.
-
Kveldulf Gundarsson: A cornerstone of the house, Gundarsson’s works like Amulets and Germanic Magic serve as the definitive practical manuals for modern practitioners and vitki.
-
Holly Walters: A life-long storyteller, Holly is also a cultural anthropologist with a PhD from Brandeis University working in the high Himalayas of Nepal. While her ethnographic work focuses on fossil folklores and sacred ammonites in South Asia, her creative work pays homage to the dragons, unicorns, and fairy tales of her youth.
-
Maria Kvilhaug: A world-renowned scholar whose work on Old Norse myths, such as The Seed of Yggdrasill, has redefined how we understand the spiritual initiation rites of the Viking Age.
-
Mathias Nordvig: a PhD in Old Norse literature with focus on Old Norse mythology. He teaches subjects on Old Norse literature and culture, Nordic witchcraft and pre-Christian religion, and Arctic cultures at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
After the passing of Kveldulf/Stephan, an endowment was created
- The Legacy of Stephan Grundy: Through the Stephan Grundy Endowment for Medieval Studies, the Sisters preserve and promote the towering intellectual legacy of the late Dr. Grundy.

Beyond the Page: The Tools of the Craft
Recognizing that a practitioner needs more than just theory, The Three Little Sisters expanded their shop to include an Apothecary, as well as The Order of the Dread Sisterhood.
- The Apothecary contains decks that provide a unique connection to various methods of divination. The deck is created in house with human artists.
- The Order of the Dread Sisterhood, which started with the Death Book Project, a multidisciplinary exploration of the infinite cycle of life and death, reflecting the publisher's commitment to the "hard topics" of spirituality. Is now an expansive line of workbooks/journeys which help create a foundation of practice.
The Lighthouse: A Platform for the Marginalized
As the "Keepers of the Light," the Sisters have used their platform to amplify voices from LGBTQ+, Indigenous, and academic minority communities. Their hybrid publishing model allows them to mentor these authors, taking a manuscript from a "humble concept" to a professional, market-ready work of art.
Looking Forward: The Living Tradition
Today, shop.the3littlesisters.com is more than a bookstore—it is a digital hearth. Whether through the Nevermore Podcast or Gatherings to our commitment to preserving writing as a "beautiful art form," the Sisters continue to weave the past into the present.
As they continue to expand, their goal remains the same: to provide "magic" to every book and a steady hand to every author navigating the journey to the harbor of publication.
